Asiedu Nketia, others have made Banda a hotspot
This comes on the back of complaints by the opposition National Democratic Congress that residents of Banda are being intimidated by some security officials. If you may recall in a video widely shared on social media, Johnson Asiedu Nketia is seen confronting some military personnel in Banda who had mounted roadblocks allegedly preventing the busing of people to registration centres. At a press conference in Ajumako-Besease on Friday, August 7, 2020, to set the records straight on recent violent activities in the constituency during the just ended voters registration exercise, the Regional Secretary of the NPP, Richard Takyi Mensah, detailed series of vicious activities allegedly orchestrated by Mr. Forson using landguards and machomen prior to and after winning the 2008 parliamentary election of the area. In furtherance of his alleged vicious activities, Mr. Forson was accused by the NPP for busing non-indigenes to Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam to get registered in the voters registration exercise and vote for him in the December 7 Parliamentary elections to retain the seat for himself and the NDC. A case in point, the NPP noted, was "Where a bus-load of Ato Forson's non-indigenes who had been contracted from the Gomoa area to come and register in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency so that they could vote for Ato Forson and the NDC was arrested by the police at Gomoa Dominase". "Some of these Ato Forson Landguards were those who were arrested by the police at YAN Guest House in Mankessim during the Voters Registration Exercise. These Ato Forson Landguards/Machomen were numbering about two hundred and were always seen in Urvan/Coastal buses and pick-up vehicles moving from registration centre to another creating scenes, beating people and causing all forms of violence within the constituency", Takyi Mensah explained.

According to him, the 17 persons who were in a queue to register their names for a voter ID card were apprehended by the Military officers because they responded to a "Bonjour" greeting from the personnel. "So now under President Akufo Addo, the Military is now French teachers identifying all the French students in the Oti Region. The Military joined the queue and greeting citizens 'bonjour, bonjour', the moment you respond bonjour; then they arrest you. Since when did bilingual become a crime under Akufo-Addo's government? What the NPP is doing is divisiveness, hypocrisy, and dishonesty against the people of Oti", he said on UTV late news.

Attempts by 66 Ivorians to register: Arrest Asiedu Nketia
The statement also noted: "In that same video, he was seen leading Kia Rhino trucks containing over 2,000 persons believed to be Ivorians to a registration centre. For the timely intervention of the military, Asiedu Nketia could not register all the 2,000 persons he bused from Ivory Coast but was able to sneak in a couple of them of which 66 of them have been arrested today". Mr Abronye added that the video that was aired on Accra-based "UTV also clearly confirms the fact that, the persons who were seen in a Kia Rhino Truck led by Asiedu Nketia are not Ghanaians but all blooded Ivorians and that alone vindicates the military and exposes the ill motive of Asiedu Nketia to register Ivorians."

We are a few months away from this year's general election but in a somewhat surprising turn of events, the African Money artiste says he has not made a decision yet whether to campaign for the party. In spite of his indecision, Barima Sidney said the NPP had delivered on its promises and he had not regretted campaigning for the party. "If the NPP comes today and they need my services, I will perform for them just like the NDC. With the NPP in power, I don't think they will be comfortable if I sing African Money because it won't favour them but I have other great songs I can perform for them," he said.
