Ngleshie Amanfro: Immigration officers clash with Asafo group [Video]
Some persons have been injured in a clash between some Immigration officials and the Asafo group from Ngleshie Amanfro Chiefs Palace. Citi News sources say confusion broke out when the Asafo group went to the Immigration barracks to prevent the officials from using their Public Address system while organising a one-week commemoration of their fellow officer who had passed on. District Commander for Ngleshie Amanfro, Superintendent Augustine Okanta Akrofi told Citi News that some arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
MMDCEs have not been asked to vacate post
The Greater Accra Regional Co-ordinating Council has debunked claims that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives have been directed to leave office and hand over affairs to their Co-ordinating Directors. A statement from the Co-ordinating Council said the claims must be disregarded. President Nana Akufo-Addo's January directive signed by the Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Opare urged the MMDCEs to remain at post but warned them against taking any policy-related decisions.
Citi FM/TV petitions NMC over assault on Caleb Kudah and invasion by national security
The management of Citi FM and Citi TV has petitioned the National Media Commission, over the arrest and assault of its journalist, Caleb Kudah, and the subsequent invasion of the premises of the media house on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, by operatives of the National Security. A. INTRODUCTION. Management of Citi FM & CITI TV is lodging this formal complaint to the National Media Commission on the conduct of some officers of the National Security Ministry against two journalists - Mr. Caleb Kudah and Mrs. Zoe Abu-Baidoo Addo working with Citi FM/Citi TV and the raiding of the offices of Citi FM & Citi TV by policemen from National Security Ministry on the same day. A few minutes after this, about seven or eight fully armed SWAT police officers from the National Security Ministry, led by a plainclothes officer stormed Citi FM/Citi TV in a Rambo-style in 3 pick up vehicles, accosted Mrs. Abu-Baidoo Addo confiscated her phone and chased her, to the back of Citi FM in a bid to arrest her.
Fisheries Commission condemns illegal fishing methods in Central Region
The Fisheries Commission of Ghana has condemned the use of unorthodox fishing methods by some fisherfolk in the Central Region. Speaking to Citi News at the commissioning of two new modern fish smoking centres in Senya Bereku and Winneba, Executive Director for the Commission, Michael Arthur Dadzie stated that the use of unapproved methods in fishing will cause more harm to that industry in the long run. Executive Director for the Commission also encouraged fish processors not to patronise fish caught through illegal means to discourage persons from engaging in the act.
Removal of illegal structures, encroachers on Graphic Road begins on May 18
The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly will commence an exercise to rid the Graphic Road in Accra of illegal occupants and encroachers. Speaking at a meeting with stakeholders on the impending clean-up exercise along the Graphic Road at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Henry Quartey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central said the exercise was expected to reduce indiscipline in the city. Representatives of institutions present who pledged their support towards the exercise were Graphic Communications Group Limited, Rana Motors, Accra Brewery Limited, Francoparts, and Japan Motors amongst others.
Invasion of Citi FM premises by security operatives unacceptable
Operatives of National Security last Tuesday arrested and assaulted Citi FM's Caleb Kudah after they found him filming abandoned state-funded vehicles near its offices. The operatives subsequently besieged Citi FM to arrest another journalist, Zoe Abu-Baidoo Addo who received the materials captured by Caleb. The National Security Ministry has been widely condemned following the incident with some lawyers and individuals recounting similar experiences deemed to be illegal.

Government must address crisis of impunity, lawlessness by security operatives
A former director of the School of Communication Studies at the University of Ghana, Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo says there is an urgent need for the government to address the growing incidents of assault and torture of individuals including journalists carried out by national security operatives. Prof. Gadzekpo's comment was in reaction to the arrest and assault of Citi FM's Caleb Kudah by armed national security operatives as well as their invasion of the media house's premises to arrest another journalist, Zoe Abu-Baidoo Addo last Tuesday. According to her, Ghanaians must be concerned about the kind of treatments meted out to people by national security operatives in the country, adding that the National Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, must take full responsibility for the problematic behaviour and tasked to ensure that it is addressed.
Galamsey fight: Burning excavators a reckless approach
A leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Sylvester Mensah, has described as lazy and reckless the burning of excavators used for illegal mining in various parts of the country. According to Sylvester Mensah, the government must rethink the approach of burning the excavators. He said a future NDC government will not burn seized galamsey excavators.
Akufo-Addo's corruption claim on CNN never false but utmost truth
A publication by ''The Fourth Estate'' website indicates that the Corruption Perception Indexes by Civil Society Organizations like the Transparency International, Afrobarometer and according to the Global Corruption Index, all point to the fact that rate of corruption under the Akufo-Addo regime has increased. Granting an exclusive interview with Peacefmonline.com, the Information Minister debunked the claims that the President lied on CNN. According to him, the President has proven to be on top in resolving corruption. When asked why there has been a delay in prosecuting and sentencing some persons who have been cited in corruption scandals if indeed the President is doing well in figting corruption, the Minister advised Ghanaians to monitor the work of the anti-corruption agencies but not to jump on the bandwagon accusing the government of failing to address corruption.
Sam George condemns assault on Caleb; says National Security acted unlawfully
The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartety George, has taken on the National Security for the assault on Caleb Kudah stating that the actions of the personnel broke several laws. Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr. George stated that Caleb Kudah did not break any laws when he filmed at the National Security Car park especially because it does not qualify as a prohibited place according to the State Secret Act. Mr. George himself was a victim of brutalities by National Security operatives during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election in 2020, where he was slapped by a security officer who was not punished despite recommendations by the Commission that sat on the events of that election.

IMF commends Ghana for effectively managing COVID-19 pandemic
The International Monetary Fund, says Ghana has effectively managed the COVID-19 pandemic. The IMF team noted that despite the economic challenges caused by the pandemic, the several policies put in place by the government are helping the Ghanaian economy to rebound. Despite the economy growing steadily, the team advised that deeper, and more equitable, fiscal efforts are needed to address the debt vulnerabilities exacerbated by the pandemic.
